ST. PETERSBURG -- It's official.
The Tampa Bay Rays can go look for new stadium sites outside of St. Petersburg.
The city and the team have struck a deal that lets the Rays check out sites in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
Rumors have been flying for a couple years now the Rays are interested in other spots but the team contract with the city prevented that from happening legally.
A new agreement also lays out just how much the Rays will have to pay if they want to break their contract early.
If they leave by 2018, for instance, they'll owe $4 million a year.
