BRADENTON -- A man who was possibly drunk driving a motorized scooter tried to take a left turn the wrong way on Manatee Avenue on Sunday and was struck by an oncoming vehicle, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
The man was driving southbound in the 500 block of First Street East at 6:21 p.m. Sunday and tried to take a left turn going eastbound on Manatee Avenue, where the road is one-way westbound, according to a release.
A vehicle going northbound struck the scooter and the man was flung through the windshield of the vehicle, police said. The man was talking on scene but could not move parts of his lower body, and police said his breath had the smell of alcohol.
The man was taken to Blake Memorial Hospital for major injuries and consented to a blood draw while at the hospital, a release said. Criminal charges are pending the outcome of those results.
