Homeless man charged with burglarizing Sarasota restaurant during heroin bender

SARASOTA -- Deputies said they caught a homeless man who stole $400 from a restaurant during an alleged 3-day heroin bender by tracing his fingerprints, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Michael Hennes, 39, pushed up a window sometime last Monday night or early Tuesday to gain access to the manager's office at Fiona's Too Restaurant at 2833 Bee Ridge Rd. in Sarasota, according to deputies. Hennes then took cash from the office and from a register that totaled $400.

Detectives took fingerprints from the glass on the window, which identified Hennes, who has not been arrested in Sarasota County but does have a record in the state.

The homeless suspect was located on Wednesday a few hundred yards from the restaurant. He said in a post-Miranda interview that he had been on a three-day binge of heroin during the time of the burglary, according to a release.

Deputies arrested Hennes on charges of burglary.
