Sarasota housekeeper charged with stealing silver from client

From the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office:

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a housekeeper for stealing her client's jewelry and silver collection and pawning it all for just pennies on the dollar.

The 79-year-old victim reported that someone stole jewelry and $13,000 worth of silverware that she received as a wedding gift in 1957. She told detectives her housekeeper, Autumn Barnett, DOB 1/7/83, 4190 Lorri Circle, North Port, may be a suspect. A check of local pawn records showed Barnett made 22 pawns of similar items in both Sarasota and Charlotte counties.

Detectives questioned Barnett, of Shamrock Cleaning, who admitted stealing and pawning the items. She was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of Grand Theft and one count of Providing False Ownership Information to a Pawn Broker. Barnett was released on $3,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing to determine if there may be additional victims.
