Man charged with eating marijuana during traffic stop in Bradenton

BRADENTON -- Eating the evidence wasn't enough to keep a 23-year-old man out of jail Tuesday on a drug charge, according to Bradenton police.

About 5:49 p.m., in the 2400 block of 14th Street West, officers with the Casual Clothes Unit attempted to make a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Juan Garcia, police said.

Garcia did not stop for several blocks, according to a report.

"Mr. Garcia was observed trying to eat marijuana as officers approached the vehicle," police said.

Garcia was removed from the vehicle and was arrested. Officers found additional marijuana in his vehicle, police said.

Garcia was taken to the Manatee County jail, charged with possession of marijuana, fleeing to elude and tampering. He was released after posting bonds totaling $3,500, according to the jail website.
