The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for parts of Manatee, Sarasota, DeSoto and Hardee counties.
The advisory was issued at 5:24 p.m. after the Weather Service's Doppler radar indicated rainfall rats of three inches per hour associate with thunderstorms over the advised area, which includes Myakka City.
"Keep children from being swept away in flooded ditches and drains," the Weather Service said.
The Weather Service also advised motorists not to drive through areas of high water.
Areas included are southeastern Manatee, northern Sarasota, southwestern Hardee and northwestern DeSoto counties.
The advisory is in effect until 7:30 p.m.
