VIN MANNIX column | Face looks familiar on Rushmore

Leave it to second-graders to put a smile on your face that lasts all day.

Miller Elementary School held Read Across Manatee last Tuesday morning and after yours truly read for teacher Lauren Allen’s class, we had a funny moment.

Spotting a poster of Mount Rushmore, I pointed to one of the four presidents on it and asked the kids for his name.

“GEORGE WASHINGTON!” they shouted.

I pointed to another.

“ABE LINCOLN.”

Then I pointed to Teddy Roosevelt.

“THAT’S MY UNCLE BOB!” Lindsey Quinehan cried out.

All riiiiight.

Gave that girl a high five.

Her classmates, who may or may not be related to anyone else on Mount Rushmore, are Rafael Abreu, Samatha Bartholow, Zachery Belville, Joshua Bonilla, Kira Burden, Lynlee Clarke, Stanqualin Collins, Kalee Gonzalez, Davide Montanari, Harlee Murray, Amiya Rentz, Na’Zaria Smith, David Stivers, Hannah Tracey, Paiton Varasso, Damon Williams and Lucian Wilson.

The book I read for them was “Mouse Soup.”
