Galvano son relegates pop to back seats

When Bill Galvano stood before the Manatee County Commission as a state representative for the last time Tuesday, his family was present, too.

Only they weren’t there for him.

Bill’s wife, Julie, his in-laws, Jean and the Rev. Sterling Forrester, and Paul Forrester, came to hear 11-year-old William Galvano give a speech.

The Stewart fifth-grader’s “The Now Generation” won the 4th/5th-grade division of the 41st annual 4-H/Tropicana Public Speaking Program.

“He’s the new and improved version,” said Bill, who won it 33 years ago as a Palma Sola student.

n Bradley Wade Bishop got a PhD in information studies at FSU and will teach at the University of Kentucky’s grad school.

n New officers for the MHS Key Club are president Camden Mills, VP Melissa DeGroat, secretary Taran Pennebacker, treasurer Mariel Sousa and editor Chelsea DuDeVoire.

Guests at the installation, performed by Key Club Lt. Gov. Sydney O’Reilly, included Dr. Steve Tinsworth, Kiwanis Club president; Larry Coleman, Kiwanis Foundation; and Belinda Kelly.
