Manatees released by South Florida Museum

BRADENTON — Two young male manatees were released this morning from South Florida Museum’s Parker Manatee Aquarium, where they’d spent the past four months.

Teco II was transported to the Lowry Park Zoo by zoo officials.

Bolee was transported by Florida Wildlife Commission staff to Jug Creek at Pine Island in Fort Myers.

Teco II had been affected by the winter’s unusual prolonged cold weather and was rescued in January from the outfall canal in Apollo Beach near the Tampa Electric Company, hence the manatee’s name.

Bolee was injured by a boat in Fort Myers about the same time.

A third young manatee, Cayman, will be released Monday to Disney World.
