n The MHS Sugar ’Canes perform their nationals dance entry, JLo’s “Let’s Get Loud,” at halftime of tonight’s Hurricane boys hoops game with Braden River. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Former Sugar ’Cane captain AnnaMaria Diamant choreographed the number, assisted by Tracy Capozella with Sarabay Dance Studio owner Tess Chawi as Latin dance consultant.

The Sugar ’Canes are captain Lauren Wagener, co-captain Rachel Kushmer, dance officers Ally Walstad and Alex Pace, lieutenants Heather Ripley and Crystal Krause, and Lauren Bellant, Jordan Brewer, Ashley Cronkhite, Darci Elfervig, Emma Galati, Danielle Kibby, Katherine Pace, Ellie Potter and Breslyn Reiber.

Nationals are Feb. 6-7 at Disney World.

n Jacquie and Roger Cumbie thank Rowlett Magnet Elementary for generous donations of clothing, food and supplies for their son, Army Lt. John Cumbie, a Southeast grad, and his platoon stationed in Afghanistan.

Teacher Linda Bolno and school nurse Diane Nixon led the effort with a big assist from Manasota Operation Troop Support. Parents Laura Kramer, Diane Meyer, Heidi Piccione and Sue Taylor helped pack boxes, which included letters from Rowlett students.
