Ballerina trio in Nutcrackerat Van Wezel

Bravo to Emma Bright, Maddie Moore and Samantha Scalzitti.

All students at Tracey Vita’s School of Dance, they will perform Dec. 29 at Van Wezel in “The Nutcracker” with the prestigious Moscow Ballet.

Emma attends St. Joseph’s School, Maddie goes to Sugg Middle, and Samantha, Lee Middle.

n Angel Youngerman, the real brains at RaceTrac on First Street, is 22.

n Ryane Carden graduated cum laude from UF’s School of Health and Performance. Parents Robin and Tim and siblings Catie, Josh and Connor are proud.

n West Manatee Fire and Rescue District honored Lt. Ryan Moore as Officer of the Year, Rodney Kwiatkowski, Firefighter of the Year, and Andrew Lauricella, Rookie of the Year.

Firefighters John Stump and Jeff Philips received Exceptional Duty Awards.

Years of Service Awards went to firefighters Keith Miller, Bill Kimbrell, Jeff Philips, Jeff Taylor, Ben Dillon and Mike Petrosino (five years), Lt. Moore and Inspector Tom Soleau (10), and Lt. James Leigh (15).

A Career Service Award went to Chief Andy Price, 30 years of service.

“How old are you?” I asked a second-grade boy for a story.

When he didn’t answer I tried a different tack.

“How many are you?”

Seven, he answered.

Then I turned to his classmate, Harris Newby.

“How many are you?”

She gave me a look.

“Do you mean, ‘How old am I?’”
