14 bands to rock benefit concert for 16-year-old

There’s a cool benefit concert fundraiser Saturday for Matt Bauer, a Bradenton 16-year-old fighting acute myeloid leukemia.

Band-Aide “For The Cause” features Bootleg, A Gentlemen Army and Crash Fist Fight among 14 bands scheduled from 1 to 11:45 p.m at Bradenton Auditorium.

Matt has been receiving treatment at All Children’s Hospital since July 9. His sister Whitney, 18, is a bone marrow match and a transplant is planned for late October.

n The Bradenton Elks Lodge 1511 won the National Initiation Ritual Ceremony competition at the National Elks Convention, Portland, Ore., in July.

They won the Florida Elks State Ritual Competition in May and competed against 44 other state champions at nationals.

Team members were coach Lou Horvath, chaplain Neal Curtis, lecturing knight Kay McCracken, leading knight Dave Manning, exalted ruler Bob Erwin, loyal knight Jeff Mitchell, inner guard Howard Dobbs, esquire Bob Pate and candidate Mike Carter.
