Ol’ Sheriff Wells back on hot seat for benefit roast

It’s been awhile since Charlie Wells has been in the limelight.

Too long, in fact.

Time for the former sheriff to be back on the hot seat.

Wells, who retired in April 2007, will be the guest of honor at a charity roast to benefit the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County, Inc.

It’s 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Bradenton Auditorium, 1005 Barcarrota Blvd.

Among the folks doing the roasting will be his successor, Sheriff Brad Steube, Commissioners Ron Getman and Gwen Brown, former Commissioner Pat Glass, state Sen. Mike Bennett, state Reps. Bill Galvano and Ron Reagan, Judges Marc Gilner and Lee Haworth, former Superintendent Gene Witt, and Charlie’s son, Lt. Rick Wells.

For tickets, call Debby McCoy at 747-0278

The event is presented by the Sharff Family Charitable Foundation.
