Hoofers dance way to another national crown

A bow to Barbara Bensman, Suzy Berinsky, Margy Carraway, Kim Dzuik, Vickie Inglese, Michelle McCaffrey, Kathy Spain and Jeanne Wacker.

The Starfire Dancers, from Bonnie Gray’s “That’s Dancing!” Dance Education for Adults, shined at the Starpower National Talent Championships July 1-3 in Orlando.

Their tap routine, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” earned the national championship for adult small groups for the second straight year, a platinum medal and high score award in the small group tap division.

Their character jazz routine, “King Of The Road,” also won platinum, the high score character award, and runnerup for the national title.

Berinsky also won national champion adult tap soloist, a platinum medal and high score for “It’s Sandman!”

The group performs Aug. 19, at the Manatee Central Building, 515 Ninth St. E., Bradenton.

n Manatee High’s Her-i-canes girls soccer team host its fourth-annual fundraising golf tournament 1 p.m. Sept. 26. at the Bradenton Country Club.

n Ronald Perry is 80 years young. Cheers from wife Eleanor, his bride for 55 years, daughter Roni Perry Carrington and sons Todd, Matt, Joe and Tim Perry. He has nine grandchildren and two great-grands.

n Big ups to Kristy Civerolo, the Manatee County Tax Collector’s Employee of the Third Quarter 2009.

Kristy has been with the Tax Collector’s office since 2005 and serves as an associate III in the current collections department at the DeSoto office.

Civerolo will receive a certificate of appreciation, a reserved parking space, her name engraved on the office trophy and a gift certificate from Demetrio’s Pizza.
