Big moment for graduate at Annapolis

It was quite a commencement for Greg Pavich last Friday.

The 2004 Manatee High grad shook President Barack Obama’s hand as he accepted a mechanical engineering degree from the Naval Academy.

Pavich was also commissioned a Marine Corps second lieutenant and begins six months of training June 29 in Quantico, Va.

Parents Paul and Jane and brothers and sister-in-law Paul, Scott and Heather are proud.

n My man LeRoy Bostic is retiring after 32 years with Manatee County Parks and Rec — and is contemplating wife Beverly’s “Honey Do” list.

n A bow to Katie Melchior, MHS senior and native of Allouez, Wis., off to Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., on a vocal music scholarship.

n Guy Harvey is in town Saturday at Beall’s, 6355 Manatee Ave. W.

But Linda and Tino Perez want to see the popular marine artist’s retail coordinator.

He’s their son, Jay.

n MHS cheerleader and Key Club treasurer Melissa DeGroat is “Sweet 16.”

n At MHS’s senior awards, Bradenton Rotary honored Joshua Letts as outstanding male senior, Kristen Troxler, outstanding female senior, and gave Dyrren Barber a $2,000 scholarship.
