Two FFA national crowns for Southeast students

Big ups to the Southeast Manatee FFA chapter from Southeast High School, which shined at the 58th annual National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City.

Advisor Mike Buckley’s team included Wendy Hebenstreit, Kendall McLucas, Trent Sagramsingh and Sarah Shealy and took first in homesite evaluation and third in land judging.

Sagramsingh was first in land judging in the individual category, and second in homesite evaluation, where Shealy was fourth, Hebenstreit 10th and McLucas 24th.

They competed with 170 other teams from 35 states.

n Cas Henderson is 13 and sister Katie is 9.

n Props to Community Christian School Senior High’s band, first place winners in the Level “A” band/orchestra category at the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) National Fine Arts Competition.

It’s the fourth time in six years the band has won first under Ron Porch’s directorship.

n Manatee High School junior Jacob Campos is 17.

n Check out Opus 2, featuring the MHS orchestra, band and chorus 7:30 p.m. Thursday at MCC.

n The law firm of Kallins, Little & Delgado held its fourth annual KLD Scholarships banquet at El Conquistador Country Club.

A total of $14,000 in scholarships was awarded to 10 students, including: Southeast’s Stephen Suchy, Manatee’s Deanna Poelsma and Jessica Pate, Bayshore’s Paige LaBarr, Braden River’s Ashley Phillips, Bradenton Prep’s Amber Gibbs, Bradenton Christian’s Summer Smoak, Palmetto’s John Murrell Jr., Lakewood Ranch High’s Linda Rodriguez and Sarasota Military Academy’s Donald Coup III.

Nick Bollettieri was the featured speaker.
