Braden River places 7 at FBLA state leadership conference

Props to the Manatee School District students who took honors at the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference in Orlando.

Braden River High School, FBLA District 18 champs three years straight under lead advisor William Gaynor, brought 27 students and placed in four categories.

Palmetto High School’s Casey Jago was the disrict’s lone first-place winner in Intro to Business.

BRHS’s Casandra Ballenger, Kirsten Langley and Caleb Parker were third in business ethics. Katy Kopstad was third in electronic career portfolio. Jon Ely and Mike Karman were fifth in global business, and Bradley Dotson was fifth in Intro to Technology.

PHS’s Kayla Gabriel was third in hospitality.

Manatee High’s James Elliott was fourth in economics.

Lakewood Ranch High’s Justin Leffert was fifth in computer problem solving.

n A bow to Brownie Troop 204 for donating more than $500 worth of new toys to Manatee Memorial Hospital’s Pediatric Unit.

The girls shopped for video games, movies, electronic games, cars and other toys for the children, and brought them to MMH where they were greeted by several pediatric nurses.

The troop, which meets at Faith Church on Lorraine Road, used the money they had earned selling Girl Scout cookies.

n Stephenie Schauberger, who was third in the PHS Class of 2008, hasn’t lost her stride, being inducted into USF’s Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

The psychology major’s GPA is 3.6 and she made dean’s list her first semester.

The Nolettes Dance team, choreographed by Katie Hillman, won first in Jazz at the NFL Super Bowl Experience Cheer and Dance competition in Tampa.
