Dance teams center stage next Friday

Check out “Yes We Can ... Dance” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6 at Braden River High.

It’s a countywide showcase featuring the Bayshore High Honeybears, Braden River High Black Pearls, Manatee High Sugar ’Canes, the Palmetto High Tiger Dance Team and Southeast ’Nolettes, along with the Braden River Middle Panther Dancers, Haile Dance and Lee Dance Troupe.

Helen Dolbec, the former Honeybears director, collaborated with former Sugar ‘Cane director Linda Boone to put on the event, showcasing our county’s dance talent.

Advance tickets are $5 and are available from each school’s dance program.

Tickets at the door are $8.

Bradenton Rotary Club hosts “Comedy Jam” at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at MCC’s Neel Auditorium. Comics Maria Bamford, Doug Benson and Graham Elwood join former Rotary president Traci Kanaan doing standup for a good cause.

Proceeds go to scholarships to MCC and USF Sarasota-Manatee, and to the Bradenton Rotary Foundation.
