Meet 10 young ladies

Drum roll, please!

Here are the 10 lovely and talented young Manatee County women who will vie for the crowns and titles of 2009-10 Hernando De Soto Queen and Princess on the society’s 70th anniversary:

Kelsey Adams — MHS 2007, USF;

Avery Ellsworth — MHS 2007, MCC;

Alison Fraraccio — Saint Stephen’s School 2007, USF;

Amy Hernden — MHS 2008, University of North Florida;

Julia “Rainey” Higgins — PHS 2006, MTI;

Kimberly Hillman — MHS 2007, Valencia CC;

Lauren Kerrey — PHS 2007, MCC;

Natalie Lopez — LRHS 2008, University of Tampa;

Danielle Sabella — MHS 2008, MCC; and

Jami Stinton — PHS 2008, MTI.

Their formal debut is March 28 at the Gala Latina at Lakewood Ranch Country Club.

The new queen and princess will be crowned at the DeSoto Ball on April 24 at the Bradenton Municipal Auditorium.

n Chuck Tanner, who managed the Pittsburgh Pirates to the 1979 World Series title, is guest speaker for the Pirates Booster Club’s annual luncheon at noon Feb. 4 at Bradenton Country Club.

n Bradenton Christian’s Dylan Pearson is 18. Cheers from parents Dana and Joann and brother Devan.

n There’s a celebration of Nik Reek’s life Saturday beginning at noon at Skipper’s Pub, 10104 Cortez Road.

The aspiring chef died Dec. 4 after an accident authorities say was caused by a drunk driver, who turned in front of Nik’s motorcycle.

The Burghs and Wikked Jester will perform. Proceeds go toward an MCC culinary scholarship in Nik’s name.

n UF junior Devon Glynn is 21. Cheers from parents Scott and Sherri.

n A reminder to Deborah Wooten and her devoted staff at the county’s Child Support Enforcement Office: Pirates’ national anthem auditions are 10 a.m. Saturday at McKechnie Field.

n That’s 45 years of wedded bliss for Bruce and Kathy Wadlin. They met back in the day at the ol’ A&W Root Beer stand on 14th Street and celebrated their recent anniversary at Shake Pit.

n Tara Elementary’s Natalie Towell is 6, and sister Dana is 8. Lisa and Doug are proud.

n The Bradenton Woman’s Club, 1705 Manatee Ave. W., holds its third Annual Casino Party at 7 p.m. Saturday. There will be a silent auction and snacks and beverages will be available.
