The Society Incorporated put on the glitz for their annual New Year’s Eve Gala. The women wore their sparkliest gowns and the men were elegant in their tuxedoes as they kissed 2008 goodbye and rang in 2009.
The always-elegant Audrey Coleman stepped in as chair, with Edwina Stanley as her co-chair, to fill the hole left by Carolyn Johnson. Carolyn chaired the party since it began in 2004 but she passed away suddenly last year. Audrey and Edwina dedicated the party to her memory.
Organization president Clara Mims greeted guests at the Polo Grille’s Fete Ballroom, which glittered with white, silver and crystal decorations. After dinner, everyone partied long after the ball dropped. They were still on the dance floor when the musicians had to pack up at 1 a.m.
Among the revelers were Tuskegee University president Dr. Benjamin Peyton and his wife, Thelma, retired U.S. Ambassador Joseph Segars with his wife, Elizabeth, and “the three carols” Carol and Carroll Buchanan with their friend, Carole Patterson.
Next up for the busy ladies of The Society Incorporated is their annual “Rising Stars” Recital. The concert will be held Feb. 7 at Sarasota’s Sanier Auditorium. Call Audrey at 360-1541 for more details.
