Designing Women Boutique fashion show a ‘must-do’ affair

Just when you think that the social calendar is bursting at the seams, along comes another “must do” party.

The Designing Women Boutique cabaret and fashion show has joined those ranks. Now in its fourth year, this year’s move to the Asolo Rep theater took it to the next level.

Mary Ann Robinson and Chris Currie coordinated the event details while Carolyn Michel took on the show directing and emceeing duties. The audience was treated to sample performances by some of the area arts organizations but it was the fashion segments that brought down the house.

Some of the area’s loveliest women wore stunning outfits pulled from the racks of the upscale consignment shop, styled by Jewel Ash. Manatee County’s Audrey Coleman, Caitlin Podaras, Virginia Ray and Michele Shields were part of the group that rivaled professional models.

Local restaurateur Michael Klauber conducted the live auction held during the dinner and added a surprise item. He and his wife, Terri, offered to host a dinner in their home. The generous couple then agreed to sell the same prize again, each for $3200.

Savvy shoppers know that the Sarasota store sells couture clothes and designer furnishings at great prices. Over $800,000 has been donated to the community from the boutique’s proceeds. Now that’s style!
