Safety first is birthday girl’s big celebration

Guess how Flo Fisher celebrated her 85th birthday?

By voluntarily turning in her Florida driver’s license at the Manatee County Tax Collector’s main office.

Son Bill said Flo had “nary a ding, dent, fender bender or ticket” in more than 70 years of driving.

Her father was the Alliance, Ohio, police chief and taught Flo how to drive at 11.

Her son, friends and neighbors will do the driving now.

n Austin Jensen’s holidays will be a tad chillier than a year ago. The ex-Manatee Hurricane flash and FAU sophomore safety will be in Detroit with the Owls (6-6) for the Dec. 26 Motor City Bowl against Central Michigan (8-4).

They beat Memphis in the New Orleans Bowl last Dec. 20.

n BHS sophomore Marc Coale, a junior black belt from Bostock’s Tae Kwon Do, is 16.
