ELMIRA, Ore. — School officials in an Elmira high school recently banned cancer awareness bracelets that say “I (heart) Boobies.”
The Eugene Register-Guard reported that school officials said that the intent of the bracelets is admirable, but that probably the message is lost on most of the students wearing them: ninth-grade boys.
Principal Gary Carpenter also said the bracelets are a distraction.
The bracelets are sold by the California-based nonprofit Keep A Breast Foundation, which works to educate young people about breast cancer.
Other school districts have banned the bracelets as well.
