University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee opens applications for social work program

University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee is accepting applications for a new master of social Work program,

The program will help prepare students to work at social service agencies, schools, hospitals and other clinical settings. The program, overseen by the School of Social Work at USF in Tampa, will be hosted by USF Sarasota-Manatee with classes at its campus at 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, and online..

Students will work toward master’s degree over a 2½-year period, or eight semesters, according to officials.

The program involves clinical internships. Students will work under master’s-level social workers at agencies, hospitals and schools at least 10 hours per week, performing psychological assessments, observational reports and limited counseling, in some cases.

Classes start in fall 2017. Registration deadline is Feb. 15, 2017.

Only 25 students will be admitted. Each will be assigned as mentor one USFSM faculty member.
