BRADENTON -- Middle school age students and their parents can begin the choice enrollment process next week.
The Manatee County School District's Choice Open Enrollment Session runs Feb. 8-19. It allows students and parents to apply to a school outside of their zone.
The session is the only time during the year when parents can apply to have their middle school child attend another school without giving a specified reason. Applications are available during the choice application session online atmanateeschools.net by clicking "Hot Topics" then "School Choice. Applications are also available at school sites and at the Office of Student Assignment, 1400 First Ave. E., Palmetto.
New Manatee County students will need a birth certificate and to provide their social security number, according to officials. The application must be signed by the enrolling parent.
Parents may use choice to enroll their child in advanced programs such as the International Baccalaureate program offered at Johnson Middle School in Bradenton or the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education program at Lincoln Middle School in Palmetto.
