SARASOTA -- Pine View School, a public school in Sarasota that serves only students designated as "gifted," was named Florida's fifth-best high school by U.S. News and World Report Wednesday.
In fact, Pine View showed the highest proficiency scores of Florida's top 10 high schools in math and reading.
Pine View posted a score of 4.7 in both subjects, scores that are 0.5 and 0.6 points higher than the top-ranked school, Design & Architecture Senior High, in Miami.
Pine View, which has a total enrollment of 2,170 in grades two through 12, was also ranked 30th nationwide by U.S. News and World Report.
The rankings are based on FCAT scores, the number and performance of students in advanced placement courses, and the performance of low-income or minority students.
