Manatee School Board delays hiring out-of-town real estate firm

MANATEE — The “buy local” movement prevailed at Monday night’s school board meeting when the board decided against hiring an out-of-town firm to handle the sale of district property.

More precisely, the board voted to delay its decision on hiring a real estate broker firm for at least two months, when the board is scheduled to consider a policy to factor into bidding decisions whether a real estate firm is located within Manatee County.

The 3-0 vote, with two board members abstaining because of conflicts of interest, means RRE Real Estate Services of Clearwater will not receive the job despite its perfect score in a competitive bidding process.

That bidding process generated only five bids overall including two each from Manatee and Sarasota counties.
