Manatee schools raise $37,000 in 'Hope for Haiti' campaign

The Manatee County School District’s “Hope for Haiti” campaign has collected ALMOST $37,000 from students, parents, teachers, administrators, school staffs and support personnel, the district announced today.

Superintendent Tim McGonegal will present a check for that amount to the Manatee County Chapter of the American Red Cross tonight during the Manatee County School Board meeting.

The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. at the School Support Center located at 215 Manatee Ave. W.

Fundraising efforts have included car washes, hula-hoop marathons, walk-a-thons, loose changes collections at elementary schools and general donation efforts, school representatives said.

“People across our district coming together to help victims of this tragic earthquake is a great example of ‘Global Outreach,’ which is one of our key EdVantage Strategic Objectives,” McGonegal said in a press release. “The way in which our students, employees and parents responded to this call for help shows how our Strategic Objectives are becoming a real part of our students lives.”
