A convicted felon is facing drug and weapons charges after deputies found three rifles, a pistol, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, methamphetamine, prescription pills and syringes in his home and RV in Venice, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Ryan Hug, 54, was charged with failure to register as a convicted felon; possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon; and possession of methamphetamine, amphetamine, alprazolam, diazepam, hydromorphone, clonazepam and morphine. He is being held at the Sarasota County Jail on bonds totaling $25,620.
Hug was arrested as part of a joint investigative effort by the sheriff's office and the Venice Police Department, during which detectives obtained a search warrant for his home in the 300 block of Bayshore Drive in Venice.
Inside his home, detectives reportedly found a loaded AR-15 rifle, an H&K .22-caliber LR pistol, a loaded Sig Sauer Mosquito .22-caliber pistol and a Remington .270-caliber rifle inside a safe in his master bedroom, according to an arrest report. About 1,000 rounds of ammunition were also found in the home.
In Hug’s 2014 Winnebago in his driveway, detectives found a concealed compartment with a Crown Royal bag that contained drugs and syringes, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hug’s criminal history includes multiple felony convictions in Florida and Georgia.
The investigation is ongoing.
