A would-be robber left empty handed after threatening a convenience store clerk Sunday evening, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
At about 9:25 p.m., a suspect described as a white male in his 20s, wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants and black glasses with clear lenses entered the Crazy Papas store at 3101 15th St. E., the report said. He also was described as having short, light-brown hair with a receding hairline, blue eyes and wearing a blue shirt over his shoulder.
Authorities say the suspect approached the clerk at the counter and told her to open the cash drawer. The clerk, the report said, told the suspect she would open the drawer once he slid his debit card.
The suspect then stated “if you don’t want to have a bad day, open the drawer,” with his right hand under his shirt implying he had a weapon, the report said.

The clerk then lifted his shirt up and observed what she described to be a piece of plastic or a piece of a garden hose. The suspect then left the store without taking anything. Nobody was injured during the incident.
