BRADENTON -- A man was arrested early Thursday after he tried to start a fight at a downtown Bradenton bar and then punched a police officer, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Staff at the Lost Kangaroo called police at 1:23 a.m., saying a man there kept trying to start a fight, according to a release. Officers arrived and tried unsuccessfully to calm Andrea Torkelson, 35, who is a local political consultant.
Torkelson then "assumed a fighting stance" and punched an officer, police said. After a brief struggle Torkelson was arrested and taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
No officers were injured.
Torkelson was charged with battery on an officer and was released from the Manatee County jail Thursday on his own recognizance following an appearance with a judge.
