MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was arrested Saturday after he swung a pole at a security guard's head because the guard took his knife away at an Oneco bar, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Oscar Trejo-Guevara, 34, came to El Paisano, 5803 15th St. E., at 11:52 p.m. Saturday and was told to leave when a security guard discovered he had a knife and took it away, according to an arrest report. The guard then told an angry Trejo-Guevara to leave the property.
The suspect went out to his truck and retrieved a long, large, metal painter's pole and returned to the entrance, where the security guard was standing, deputies said. The two started to argue, and at one point Trejo-Guevara swung the pole at the guard's head and missed, hitting a car instead.
The guard said he reacted defensively, punching the suspect several times until he dropped the pole, according to the report. The guard then held Trejo-Guevara in place until deputies arrived.
Deputies said due to its size and weight, the pole could've done considerable damage to the guard if he had not moved.
Trejo-Guevara was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was released from the Manatee County jail on Monday.
