TAMPA -- A woman and two children were killed and a third child was critically injured in a Tampa house fire that also injured a firefighter early Tuesday, authorities said.
The fire broke out at 3720 E. Paris St. just after 4:30 a.m., and crews found it engulfed in flames when they arrived, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
"As firefighters went in and we continued to pull out more victims, more support was called in," Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny said. "So we called in a second alarm."
The three children were transported to an area hospital, where two of them were pronounced dead. A firefighter also was taken to an area hospital with heat exhaustion. He is expected to be OK.
The deceased woman's relationship to the children wasn't immediately known.Officials have not released the victim's names as of yet.
The fire is under investigation.
