MANATEE -- A 21-year-old woman who was charged with aggravated battery after she lunged at her girlfriend with a knife and cut her with a pair of scissors Monday evening has been placed on supervised release Tuesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Octavia Brown was fighting with her girlfriend of three years in the 6700 block of 46th Avenue West in Bradenton at about 5:30 p.m. Monday when she picked up a knife, according to Dave Bristow, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Brown tried to strangle her girlfriend during the argument then picked up scissors and cut her with them, Bristow said. The victim ran out of the house and went to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Deputies were called and Brown was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery by strangulation. She had her first appearance Tuesday afternoon, when the victim told the judge she would like to drop the charges.
The state attorney's office objected to dropping the charges, since Brown had a past similar domestic battery charge that involved the same victim and that was also dropped.
But the judge granted the motion and allowed Brown to be on supervised release. The condition of the release was that there be no unsolicited contact with the victim.
