Woman dead, Englewood man in serious condition after Sarasota collision Sunday

SARASOTA -- A 48-year-old Portland, Maine, woman was killed and 53-year-old Englewood man hospitalized in serious condition after their 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a Honda Civic at 4:29 p.m. Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle was southbound in the left through lane of U.S. 41 north of Bayshore Road, according to FHP, when the Civic driven by 76-year-old Frank Pafumi of Osprey pulled out from a stop sign on Bayshore Road and collided with the right side of the motorcycle.

Norma Minton died a day later, according to FHP, and Anthony Ferguson remains hospitalized at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Pafumi was charged with failure to yield right of way. The crash remains under investigation, FHP reports. but alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
