Man robs Manatee motorist stopped at red light

MANATEE -- At about 11:45 p.m. Friday, the victim was driving south on Prospect Road in southern Manatee County when she stopped at a red light at Tallevast Road, according to a Manatee County sheriff's report.
While waiting for the light to turn green, a black male wearing dark clothing and a mask covering his face, and armed with a small black handgun, approached the victim's car and demanded she give him her purse and ring, the report said.
The victim complied and gave him her ring and her purse containing about $600. The robber returned to his white Hyundai Sonata and fled west on Tallevast Road, the report said.
Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash
MANATEE -- At about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, an unidentified pedestrian was crossing 30th Avenue East just west of 11th Street Court East when the pedestrian stepped in front of a vehicle traveling east on 30th Avenue East, a Manatee County Sheriff's report said.
The left front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, which threw the victim onto the vehicle and propelled the pedestrian into the westbound lane, the report said. The pedestrian was killed, according to the report, and the name is being withheld until notification of next of kin.
The vehicle, which witnesses described as a white Ford Crown Victoria, continued eastbound.
Anyone who may have witnessed the hit-and-run incident or has knowledge of the driver is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800, and ask for Trooper Refuse.
Smash-and-grab robbery nets TV set
BRADENTON -- At about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, an unknown robber threw a brick through the front window of Buddy's Home Furnishings, 2514 Ninth St. W., Bradenton police reported, and absconded with a television set that was on a table in front of the window.
Only the interior security video system could be accessed immediately after the robbery and detectives will secure the exterior security system tape and will continue to investigate, police said.
Victims discover home burglarized
BRADENTON -- Arriving home at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, victims found that electronic devices and jewelry valued at several thousands of dollars had been stolen from their residence in the 300 block of 26th Avenue West, Bradenton police reported.
There were no signs of forced entry and detectives were continuing to investigate, the report said.
