Bradenton man in jail on bonds totaling $53,240 for slew of charges

MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was arrested on a slew of charges after deputies said he tried to escape an attempted traffic stop in a stolen vehicle, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Vernon D. Poole, 42, was arrested at 1:36 a.m. Monday, according to the report. While eastbound in the 800 block of 57th Avenue East, a sergeant with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office followed Poole. The sergeant lost sight of Poole and later found the escape vehicle totaled after it crashed into a fence and a tree, according to the report.

Several units arrived on scene where Poole was trapped in the vehicle. Poole regained consciousness after being removed from the vehicle and was sent to Blake Medical Center for treatment.

Poole's driver's license had been revoked after four previous convictions for driving while license suspended and deputies reported smelling alcohol on him. Deputies also reported finding a firearm, baggies of cocaine and heroin and pills in the vehicle.

Poole was charged with motor vehicle theft; possession of cocaine, heroin, a new legend drug and drug paraphernalia; driving while intoxicated causing damage to property; possession of a weapon by a convicted felon; driving while license suspended; fleeing to elude law enforcement officers; and reckless driving.

Poole was held in Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $53,240.
