SARASOTA -- The death of an inmate at the Sarasota County jail believed to be health-related is being investigated, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
At 6:11 a.m. Saturday, David Washer was getting ready to eat breakfast in his cell when he collapsed, according to a news release. Deputies were nearby serving meals in the adjacent cell block and responded to the distress call.
Washer appeared to be having a seizure, the report said.
Nurses arrived immediately and began CPR. Nurses and paramedics also used an automated external defibrillator.
Washer was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No foul play is suspected, but detectives are awaiting the Medical Examiner's ruling on the cause of death, the report said.
