SARASOTA -- A registered sex offender was charged with molesting a teenager, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Johnathan Daniel Ranew, 19, of Venice, was arrested Wednesday night at his home. According to a report, the father of the 15-year-old female victim called deputies just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, after returning home and seeing Ranew running from the house and finding his daughter wrapped in a towel.
According to the sheriff's office, the father knew Ranew and was aware he was a convicted sex offender, but did not know the teens were in a relationship. The girl showed detectives nude photos of the two taken that night but said they did not have sex. Deputies said texts from Ranew shortly after he fled read: "delete my number...hurry...delete the pics."
According to a report, Ranew was convicted last year of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim 12-16 years old by an offender 18 or older and was sentenced to three years of probation. Terms of his probation include no unsupervised contact with a minor and no pornographic material.
