ST. PETERSBURG -- Police arrested three teenagers who they said broke into a St. Petersburg house and stole a safe that contained 17 guns.
According to St. Petersburg police, Andrew Lima and Trevor Stokes, both 18, and a 17-year-old male broke into a home in the Meadlawn neighborhood last Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The teens then took a heavy, five-foot safe that contained 17 firearms from the homeowner, who is an avid hunter, police said.
Detectives tracked down the suspects using surveillance video that showed an SUV that had been stolen in Clearwater.
The suspects were taken into custody on chages of armed burglary.
Sixteen of the 17 stolen guns were eventually recovered.
Police said the 17-year-old male is a relative of the homeowner.
