2 students taken to Manatee Memorial after accident at Rogers Garden

BRADENTON -- Two Rogers Garden Elementary School students were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital Friday morning after an accident during the morning drop-off at the school.

The layout of the school, 515 13th Ave. W., is one where there's a very slow-moving through lane in addition to the drop-off lane. The car didn't really hit the students, said Bradenton police Capt. William Fowler.

"They more or less ran into the car," he said.

A 6-year-old girl was taken to Manatee Memorial immediately after the accident, Fowler said. Her 7-year-old brother was pulled out of class later on in the morning and taken to the hospital as well as a precaution.

The injuries were minimal, Fowler said. The girl had a bump on the head and the boy was taken as precautionary measure.

"In class, they determined they wanted to have him checked out," Fowler said.

Fowler did not have information on whether the driver of the car would be cited or ticketed in the incident. An officer was on scene investigating after the accident.
