Nokomis driver rams Venice motorcyclist in Sarasota; man hospitalized in Bradenton

SARASOTA -- A 61-year-old Venice motorcyclist is in critical condition in Blake Medical Center in Bradenton after being struck at 6:23 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 41 and Spencer Avenue in Sarasota, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Debora McAndrew, 52, Nokomis, with a 40-year-old female passenger from Venice was stopped westbound on Spencer Avenue just east of U.S. 41 on State Road 45.

FHP reported the Camry pulled into the path of a 2009 Kawasaki EX-650 driven by the helmeted victim who was northbound on U.S. 41 approaching Spencer Avenue in the left lane.

The front of the Camry collided broadside with the motorcycle.

McAndrew was ticketed for violation of right of way from a stop sign and no proof of insurance, according to FHP.
