Bradenton woman charged with pill possession, child neglect

MANATEE -- A Bradenton woman has been charged with child neglect without great bodily harm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Alyssa M. Quiles, 27, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of 26th Avenue West, according to the report.

Deputies were assisting Child Protective Services with a child neglect investigation concerning a mother allegedly abusing pills and whose son is always dirty and in the front yard without supervision.

Deputies reportedly saw the unsupervised child playing in a front yard, which is on a busy roadway. Inside the home, deputies reportedly saw 16 Benadryl pills in a plastic bag on a table within reach of the child.

In the room Quiles shared with the child, deputies saw four and one-half pills, a line of white powder under a food stamp card and a cut straw with white powdery substance.

Quiles said she sometimes sniffs pills, according to the report. More pills were found on a shelf in the family room, which Quiles did not claim. Quiles told deputies she placed the Benadryl pills on the table to give to the dogs later.

The child was removed from the home, according to a report.

Quiles was being held in Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $3,500, according to the sheriff's website.
