Sarasota puts down pit bull mix 12 days after 10-month-old boy mauled

SARASOTA -- A dog that mauled 10-month-old Bradley Wagner 12 days ago has been euthanized, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

The animal was signed over to Animal Services by its owner Tuesday afternoon.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services confiscated “Fudge,” a pit bull mix responsible for the dog bite of a 10-month-old boy Jan. 9 at a home on Pine Terrace in Sarasota. The dog was impounded for safety reasons first, but based on the Animal Services investigation, the severity of the infant’s injuries and the dog’s three prior bite cases, the director determined confiscating the animal and ordering humane euthanasia the appropriate course of action. This action is per Sarasota County Ordinance Chapter 14, Section 14-40 (b) Vicious Animals. The owner, Angel “Lisa” Zargo, decided not to contest this decision.
