Manatee County Sheriff's Office still searching for burglary suspect who shot homeowner

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the gunman who shot a homeowner after he interrupted a burglary in progress at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of 35th Avenue West.

The victim had just come home with his two teenagers when he startled the armed burglary suspect, who shot him in the shoulder and fled, according to a news release.

The victim was in stable condition after the shooting and is expected to make a full recovery, according to sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow. Investigators were not able to get a good description of the male suspect, he added.

Neighbors heard the shot and saw the victim's teenage children try to chase the suspect down on bicycles to no avail.

Deputies flooded the neighborhood and neighborhood yards were searched with police dogs.
