Sheriff: Bradenton woman sets sleeping husband on fire

MANATEE -- A 59-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday on charges she set her husband on fire while he was sleeping, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was asleep on a couch in his home in the 600 block of 11th Avenue West at 3:48 a.m. when he woke up to his shirt on fire, according to a report. His wife, Linda Jackson, was sitting next to him on the sofa.

The victim told deputies that Jackson then said to him, "Didn't I tell you I'd burn your (rear) up?"

The victim called law enforcement and put out the fire on his shirt, according to the report. Deputies said there were scorch marks on his t-shirt when they arrived, but the victim declined medical treatment.

Jackson denied her husband's allegations and told deputies that she was the victim of an aggravated battery that had occurred earlier. She was taken to the Manatee County jail and charged with aggravated domestic battery.

Jackson was being held without bond.
