MANATEE -- An unknown young suspect tried to rob a woman of her wallet late Monday night by threatening her with a firearm, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The 30-year-old victim was sitting in the passenger seat of her vehicle smoking a cigarette at 11:55 p.m. on Monday in the 700 block of 56th Avenue East. The door was open and she was looking at her cell phone when the suspect approached, deputies said.
The suspect, described as a 14 to 20-year-old male, had a small, black, semi-automatic pistol on him and told the victim, "give me your money," according to a release.
When the victim stood up and replied with, "what?" the suspect said, "give me your money or I'll shoot you," according to deputies.
The victim then turned her cell phone towards the suspect to light him up, and he tried to grab the phone, according to a release. The suspect did not get the phone and ran eastbound.
The victim told deputies that the suspect seemed younger, because he spoke "with a soft voice and was obviously nervous about his commands."
The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, black beanie with white lettering on the front, dark mask covering his face and black pants. He was about 5 feet and 6 inches tall and between 140 and 160 pounds.
