MANATEE — A Palmetto man has been charged with aggravated assault and carrying a concealed firearm, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Robert Hawkins, 56, was arrested at 3:14 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of 31st Avenue East, according to the report.
Hawkins reportedly pulled up to a home asking for a person no one knew, then pointed a black firearm at the victims and asked where the person was with the $60.
When deputies arrived, Hawkins did not comply when told to place his hands in the air. Deputies reported Hawkins had the firearm in his rear pocket and was reaching toward it when ordered again to place his hands in the air, which he did.
The firearm was not loaded. Hawkins did not have a concealed weapons permit and was held on bonds totaling $51,500, according to the sheriff’s website.
