BRADENTON -- The brother of a man shot to death in Bradenton this month was stabbed about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, and the Bradenton police are investigating whether the two attacks are connected.
Officers found the victim stabbed in the upper left chest in the 1800 block of 14th Street West. Soon after, officers arrested suspect, Norberto Cortes-Rivera, in the 2000 block of 14th Street West, police reported.
The victim was taken to Blake Medical Center where he is recovering after surgery, according to police.
A police spokesman said detectives are exploring possible connections between the stabbing and the Dec. 20 shooting death of Samuel Campos Conde, the brother of the stabbing victim, according to police.
Conde, 25, was found dead in the driveway of a residence in the 3600 block of Ninth Street East. Witnesses told detectives Conde, a reputed gang member, had been involved in an altercation before he was shot. A second man also was shot and wounded.
No arrests have been made in the case, which is being investigated by the Manatee County Homicide Task Force.
Cortes-Rivera, 33, who faces a charge of aggravated battery in the stabbing case, is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
