MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was arrested on a charge of trying to meet a 14-year-old girl to have sex, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Jordan Troy Hinkle, 18, was charged Tuesday with soliciting a minor for sex using a computer device.

"We did talk to him and then we decided to send everything to the state attorney's office so they can review it and then they said they were going to go for a charge," said sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow.

According to a report, Hinkle began communicating online with a 14-year-old in May 2014. The victim's parents became alarmed when they saw the messages, which stemmed from conversations lasting several weeks. Deputies said a report was filed after law enforcement was contacted.

According to a report, a sheriff's detective assumed the identity of the minor and continued conversations with Hinkle. Hinkle said he would love to have sex with the minor.

The detective later met with Hinkle at a Books-A-Million store. According to a report, Hinkle changed his story to saying he was there to tell the minor that she was too young and that she shouldn't be having sex.

Hinkle was being held in Manatee County jail on $15,000 bond, according to the sheriff's website.
